The most important measures of excellence at the university are those that demonstrate the university's ability to transform lives.
In many cases, private giving is the catalyst
Scholarships
Wright State's students come from hard-working families who know that college requires financial sacrifices -- 90 percent work part time while they are in school, and 70 percent require some kind of financial aid. In the 2001 academic year, 9,774 Wright State students require a total of $72,532,663 to pursue their education. Our ability to attract the best and brightest students will depend largely on our ability to offer scholarship funds.
Research
In the last two years, research funding for Wright State University projects has grown by 58 percent, allowing the university to conduct pioneering research that is responding to the needs of our society and global economy. Among those organizations that Wright State collaborates with in research partnerships are the Department of Defense, the National Institutes of Health, NASA, American Heart Association, the National Science Foundation and many national corporations.
Community Service
Through its research, community outreach programs and cultural contributions, Wright State is developing programs and ideas that help individuals, businesses and institutions continually revitalize life in the Miami Valley, the nation and the world.
Among issues that the university is addressing through its community outreach are: fostering international business; enhancing the cultural
life of the region through theater, dance, musical performances, and fine arts exhibits; revolutionizing teaching methods; creating
safer schools and more inclusive education; and enhancing environmental quality.
