School of Medicine Receives Transformational Gift
“In a global community we must advance science, improve health care delivery, and provide it to all the people,” said Oscar Boonshoft during the press conference in June 2005 announcing his family’s extraordinary gift of $28.5 million to the Wright State University School of Medicine. “I expect the Boonshoft School of Medicine to be an international leader working to solve these challenges.”
The Boonshoft family’s strong belief in Wright State’s effectiveness in advancing science and improving health care delivery and access underscores his philanthropic decision. This gift will advance several strategic goals for the medical school: create state-of-the-art medical education facilities; expand student scholarships; accelerate the development of research programs; and initiate innovative programs in global health and geriatric medicine.
“This transformational gift positions the School of Medicine to play a leadership role in community-based medical education nationally,” explained Howard M. Part, dean of the medical school. “It will allow us to recruit additional outstanding faculty and better prepare physicians.”
“We are proud to announce that our medical school will now be known as the Boonshoft School of Medicine,” said President Kim Goldenberg.
